 1. Presentation and goals

The 2nd cycle of studies in Music at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa aims to obtain the degree of Master in Music, and is organised in four semesters, with a total of 120 credit, according to the current structure and study plan. The first two semesters (60 credits) include a teaching component and a Research Project. The final two semesters include, in addition to a teaching component, the preparation and presentation of an Artistic Project consisting of a written report and a practical component, or a Dissertation.

The main aim of this master's programme is to deepen the 1st Cycle instruction, focusing on the training of professionals in the field of music in order to develop artistic, cultural, academic and research activities in a wide variety of contexts, fulfilling the needs of the music industry and production markets, and traditional and emerging music consumption.

In order to achieve this goal, it is intended:

  • to improve creative and technical-interpretative resources;
  • to deepen the knowledge and understanding of music literature;
  • to develop awareness and the ability to critically reflect upon the creative and interpretative process;
  • to develop the ability to structure and carry out a research project articulated with the student's musical experience and activity, reflecting a critical and informed perspective on the research topic;
  • to acquire a professional level of autonomy within performance or composition that allows for the expression of one's own artistic personality.
