Erasmus is the higher education action of the Lifelong Learning Programme. It seeks to enhance the quality and reinforce the European dimension of higher education by encouraging trans-national cooperation between universities, boosting European mobility and improving the transparency and full academic recognition of studies and qualifications throughout the Union.

Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML) joined the Socrates/Erasmus programme in academic year 1999/2000 and, to date, it has Erasmus bilateral agreements with around 90 partner institutions across Europe.

Erasmus includes different activities and most of these consists in students’ exchange within higher education institutions – Students’ Mobility (SM).

If you are interested to apply for a study period at our School, please check the list of Erasmus partner institutions and make sure that your institution is one of our Erasmus partners.

You may study here as an Erasmus exchange student either for one semester or for a full academic year.

How to apply?

The admission as an Erasmus student is subject to the number of places available and the suitability of the applicant’s level in relation to the study programme.

Interested students who have been nominated for an Erasmus Mobility by your local school are asked to send a portfolio to Professor Lars Arens (from the International Relations Office: Este endereço de email está protegido contra piratas. Necessita ativar o JavaScript para o visualizar.), who is currently in charge of the incoming students (students coming from abroad).

This should consist of a Curriculum Vitae, a letter of motivation and stylistically diverse recordings/videos of the applicant (approx. 15-20 minutes, preferably via clouds, public or private links).

If the application fulfils the requirements above mentioned, the Erasmus coordinator will formally accept and supervise the application.

The time window for the official application period is from April 15 to May 31. The Learning Agreement should only be prepared during this stage.

We recommend that you learn more about the courses offered at the ESML in relation to your study programme and study cycle on our website (www.esml.ipl.pt).

After the successful completion of your studies at the ESML, you will get the Transcript of Records, which provides information on the courses taken and academic achievements.
