Understanding the similarities between the piano and the orchestra. Control of harmonization with voicing 1 + 5 | 3 + 7 + 10, on any major scale, harmonization with voicing 'so what' on any major scale, harmonization with quatriads in close position in all inversions on any major scale. Mastery of typical cadences playing in every major and minor tonality. Command of arrangement technique of themes from Jazz repertoire (Jazz standard or standard) with the use of voicings extension position. Understanding the relationship between chord, scale and function and the influences on harmonization. Understanding and applying the principles of voice-leading.

Syllabus:

Basic principles of tonality, functional harmony and chord-scale relationship; low-interval-limit and the problematic of registers; voicings 1 + 5, 3 + 7 + 3 and 'so what'; voicings of extension position; triadic voice-leading for typical cadences; voice-leading.

Demonstration of the Articulation of the Programme Contents with the Objectives of the C.U.

Since the objective of this C.U. is the acquisition of knowledge and skills so that the student can intervene in a variety of artistic and musical contexts, the syllabus indicated is selected in order to meet the scope of the issues involved.

Teaching and Evaluation Methods:

The teaching methodology is based on systematic and organized presentation of information through questioning, critical analysis and research suggested by the teacher, complemented with its study and discussion applied to the study of different Jazz harmonic techniques, under the guidance and supervision of the teacher in order to ensure knowledge and skills acquisition process, as specified in the C.U. objectives - The evaluation process is based on observation of the quality of participation in the activities developed during the course, including preparation for class, assignments presentations and other tests or exams, verifying the level of the acquired knowledge and skills as specified in the C.U. objectives

Demonstration of the Articulation of the Teaching Methodologies with the Learning Objectives of the C.U.:

The coherence between the teaching methodologies with the learning objectives is assessed and demonstrated by the very nature of the performance and progress of students in classes, presentations, papers and exams.
